Now that Gears Tactics is out, those not in the know may be wanting to know the relative length of the game. One report is suggesting that the strategy game, much in the style of XCOM and other real-time strategy games, takes about 25 hours to complete.

The player reporting this length noted that they are familiar with the real-time strategy genre, which may have reduced Gears Tactics’ length compared to that which will take a less familiar player to complete. Further, the report noted that additional endgame activities may result in an ultimate completion time of 30 hours or longer.

In order to reach the 100% completion of the game, players may be spending a considerably greater amount of time. As playthroughs on higher difficulty levels are required for the task, the game could take up to over 90 hours to complete at 100%.

As with previous Gears of War games, Gears Tactics uses acts and chapters to split up the game’s narrative. Relative to the usual four or five act count of past Gears titles, Gears Tactics has three acts. However, the game’s length isn’t hindered by the lower number of acts.

As for Gears Tactics’ chapters, each act has several chapters. Act 1 has 6 chapters while Acts 2 and 3 both have 8 chapters.

Overall Gears Tactics’ length is very much in line with other strategy games. As such, it is notably longer than the usual Gears of War campaign, which may divide Gears fans that are newcomers to the genre.

Overall the game’s reviews suggest that Gears Tactics is a highly competent strategy game. According to reviews, the game combines Gears of War’s signature themes and presentation with the winning gameplay mechanics of the XCOM series. A sequel to the game has yet to be announced, though it would likely depend on the success of Gears Tactics and would probably arrive on the Xbox Series X if it were to be announced at all. However, the success of the Halo Wars series might depict a similar trend for Gears Tactics as another flagship franchise of Microsoft.

Gears Tactics is now available on PC with an Xbox One version also in development.
