Not only underwhelming numbers, but using Yanfei in Genshin Impact also requires more thinking than a simple “Unga Bunga” playstyle. For example, here are some mistakes players may make when using Yanfei in Genshin Impact.

7 Not Having A Battery

Unlike Burst-reliant Genshin Impact units like Raiden Shogun and Arataki Itto, Yanfei can actually function even without her Burst. This is mostly because, unlike the other two units that are stuck with Physical hits without their ultimate, Catalyst-wielding Yanfei can do Elemental attacks with her Normal hits.

Even so, Yanfei’s Elemental Burst is crucial for her damage-dealing. Her ultimate help in boosting her damage and can grant her a faster Scarlet Seal rotation. Unfortunately, Yanfei’s Skill is terrible at granting Energy. Therefore, when playing Yanfei, Travelers should always have a Battery on a Genshin Impact team. This can be a dedicated Battery like Raiden Shogun or a reliable Pyro Battery like Bennett.

6 Not Knowing Her Scarlet Seal Mechanics

Scarlet Seal is the mechanism that makes Yanfei a unique Genshin Impact character. Here’s how to get them:

One Scarlet Seal will appear when Yanfei’s Normal Attack hits an enemy Maximum Scarlet Seals will be granted when Yanfei hits an enemy with her Skill One Scarlet Seal will appear every second when Yanfei’s ultimate is active Yanfei can own at most three Scarlet Seals, four Seals at C6

As for the mechanic and function, Scarlet Seal has the following properties:

Each Seal lasts for 10 seconds, following the newest Scarlet Seal All Seals will be consumed when Yanfei uses Charged Attack The stacks will disappear when Yanfei leaves the field Scarlet Seal reduces Yanfei’s Stamina Consumption on her Charged Attacks Grants Yanfei a 5% Pyro DMG Bonus for every Scarlet Seal consumed after she uses her Charged Attack

5 Not Knowing Her Hits Combo

Because Yanfei deals higher damage when she uses her Scarlet Seal, players should rotate her sequence between Normal and Charged Attack. For this, the typical combo is three Normal Attack + one Charged Attack, but two Normal Attack + one Charged Attack is also viable in some cases. Yanfei should also use her Charged Attack right after she casts her Skill.

Other than that, players should also mind the effect of her Elemental Burst. As she will automatically earn a Scarlet Seal every second, players can change the rhythm to two Normal Attack + one Charged Attack. On a final note, Yanfei’s final Constellation in Genshin Impact allows her to have four Scarlet Seals at max (instead of three), so this will also alter her combo.

4 Poor Stamina Management

Unlike Ningguang in Genshin Impact whose Charged Attack can be launched without consuming Stamina, the best Yanfei can offer is Stamina consumption reduction. Therefore, it’s very common for players to run out of Stamina while playing Yanfei. This is dangerous as people won’t be able to easily dodge incoming attacks without Stamina. This Stamina issue, combined with her complicated Scarlet Seal mechanics makes Yanfei a harder-than-most character to master.

To handle this issue, Travelers can either rotate the team when the Stamina is running out or bring characters that can make the battle playable without dodging.

3 Not Understanding Her Constellation Effects

Yanfei likely has some of the most boring Constellations in Genshin Impact. Her first enhancement helps with her Stamina problem, while her second is completely negligible. Luckily, things get better at C4 and C6.

With Yanfei’s fourth Constellation, people can actually play her as a shielder, where the legal advisor creates a shield that scales with 45% of her HP after she casts her ultimate. For this, Travelers need to stack up on Energy Recharge and HP. Meanwhile, her sixth Constellation is a necessity to make her a better DPS.

2 Prioritizing Her Elemental Burst Level

Similar to Burst-reliant characters like Arataki Itto and Xiao in Genshin Impact, leveling Elemental Burst will provide a large boost to the unit’s DPS. However, the first priority should still be her Normal Attack. The best sequence when leveling Yanfei’s talents is:

Normal Attack > Elemental Burst > Elemental Skill.

This is mainly because Yanfei’s ultimate primarily enhances her Charged Attack damage. Meanwhile, while playing with the Adeptus, players are bound to use her Normal Attack. Leveling up Basic Attack’s talent will increase both Normal and Charged Attack damage, making it a higher priority than her Burst.

1 Using The Wrong Artifacts

Since Yanfei will often use her Charged Attack, many people equip her with 4-Wanderer’s Troupe. However, while the artifact set is not at all bad on her (it’s actually the second best set), the top choice is still 4-Crimson Witch of Flames. Unlike Wanderer’s Troupe, which specifically buffs Charged Attack, Crimson Witch will enhance all of Yanfei’s Pyro hits, making it the better option for overall DPS.

Other than that, players can also use 4-Retracing Bolide or 4-Shimenawa’s Reminiscence. However, when using Shimenawa, Travelers need to bring some strong Genshin Impact Battery to ensure Yanfei can easily regain her Burst.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
