However, Genshin Impact players often miss the importance of one team component in particular — elemental resonances. Proving the player’s team with unique boosts and an elemental status resistance, pairing more than one character of the same element is something that Genshin Impact players need to consider. However, more common than not, players are unaware of the specific benefits of each elemental resonance.
Overview
Generally speaking, Genshin Impact players receive the benefits of an elemental resonance when more than one character on a team uses the same element. There are exceptions (as will be explored in the article) but this is the general mechanics at work; every character on the team benefits from any resonances applied.
Of course, Genshin Impact fans will need to think strategically about using resonances, for which there are two overall strategies. First, players can use a resonance to boost an area where they are lacking. For example, if the team has weaker healers then having an elemental resonance that boosts healing will help alleviate this issue. On the other hand, players can also use the resonance to increase one stat to an optimized point: increasing the attack of an already high-damage DPS, etc.
In addition, players can also potentially have more than one elemental resonance in Genshin Impact. To do so, they simply need to make a team consisting of two characters from one element and two from another. While this strategy can double the resonance bonuses in a team, it is important to be aware of the potential limitations of these teams; players will need to spend more time building these teams so that they have access to all necessary elemental reactions and skills.
Protective Canopy
The most basic elemental resonance in Genshin Impact is the Protective Canopy. This elemental resonance can be activated whenever the player has a team of four unique elements. The Protective Canopy increases both elemental and physical resistance by 15%, making for a good beginning resonance for players still getting used to the game.
Impetuous Winds (Anemo)
The first element for all Travelers in the game, Anemo’s resonance is perhaps the second most common beginner’s resonance (outside of maybe Pyro or Cryo.) Impetuous Winds increase movement speed by 10% and decrease stamina consumption by 15%, as well as skill cooldown by 5%.

Because of this, Impetuous Winds is a great resonance for players that need to explore the map and characters that have long skill cooldowns and/or movement speeds.
Shattering Ice (Cryo)
With one of the most common elements in the game, Cryo’s resonance is well-loved among the Genshin Impact community. And it’s easy to see why, as Shattering Ice increased critical rate by 15% against opponents affected by Cryo. The resonance also decreases the time the player’s team is affected by Electro, making for a good resonance for exploring Inazuma and Electro-centric domains.
High Voltage (Electro)
Electro used to be the laughing stock element of Genshin Impact, and though it has since gained more respect from its characters, it has always had an incredibly useful elemental resonance. Elemental energy recharge defines combat in the game, and High Voltage allows players to gain more energy by generating an Elemental Particle against opponents affected by superconduct, overloaded, or electro-charged reactions.

It also reduces the time players are affected by Hydro, making freezing and electro-charged troubles less common. Overall, Electro resonance is ideal for teams built on characters that often utilize their elemental burst, as it will increase energy recharge in these areas.
Enduring Rock (Geo)
While offense and DPS tend to be the focus of Genshin Impact’s combat system, players shouldn’t be too quick to disregard defense entirely. The Geo resonance, Enduring Rock, highlights the importance of keeping defensive mechanics in check: it increases the strength of shields by 15%, as well as decreases the Geo resistance of opponents against shield users.
Geo resonance makes for a good choice in teams that lack fully built defensive characters, especially in teams that have at least one shield user.
Soothing Waters (Hydro)
Much like defense, healing is a vital skill set in Genshin Impact. Defense focuses on resisting the decline of health, but healing is the only skill that can increase health; Soothing Waters shows the benefits of this by increasing incoming healing by 30%. This is great for teams with characters that lose health easily, or in teams with weaker healers.
Hydro resonance also decreases the effect time of Pyro by 40% for the player, making it a good choice for Pyro heavy domains or boss fights.
Fervent Flames (Pyro)
While both healing and defense are vital skill areas, DPS is still the name of the game in Genshin Impact. For players looking to fully optimize their offensive prowess, then Pyro resonance is going to be one of the best choices. Fervent Flames increases attack by 25%, as well as decreases the time of effect by Cryo.
This type of resonance is ideal for players either looking to optimize the attack of an existing heavy hitter or for teams with underdeveloped offensive characters.
Dendro and Beyond
Without an official Dendro character release in Genshin Impact, the game lacks a Dendro resonance at the moment. Until the release of two or more Dendro characters, players can only guess how the resonance would work: the only stats unaffected by resonance currently include maximum health and elemental mastery.
In addition, a mystery element may become available at some point in the far, far future. So far, the only character to be shown using the mysterious element is Dainsleif, so it may be related to Khaenri’ah. Though this element will be unavailable for a long time, Genshin Impact players can expect to see Dendro characters by Sumeru’s release.
