Lantern Rite is probably the largest event in Genshin Impact that gathers almost all the playable characters in Liyue to celebrate the Chinese New Year. While the festival is mostly known for giving out tons of free stuff such as Primogems, it also includes intricate stories tied to the Liyue region.

The whole Liyue nation is inspired by Chinese culture which is the main reason why the popular Lantern Rite Festival is always held in this region. The most recent Genshin Impact trailer gives more details about the relationships between Liyue’s Archon, Cloud Retainer, and a mysterious character named Guizhong. This character, also known as Hagentus and Lord of Dust, was one of the gods that watched over the Guili Assembly, an ancient civilization known for its highly advanced engineering skills. Inspired by the trailer video, a Genshin Impact fan has created a 3D model for Guizhong that gathered almost 3k upvotes on the game’s official subreddit.
The video was originally taken from Bilibili, a video-sharing website popular in the game’s Chinese community. Many fans claim that they would love to see Guizhong become part of Genshin Impact’s playable roster. The official storyline has revealed that she used to meet up with Cloud Retainer and the Geo Archon at Mt. Aocang to eat together. This part of the story was mentioned in the game’s earliest quests in Liyue.
Even though Guizhong used to be one of the most influential characters in Liyue, she was not particularly powerful, at least compared to Morax. She was known for her kind-hearted personality and wisdom that allowed her to rule over the Guili Assembly. While many fans hope to see a playable version of this character, that is unlikely to happen since she was killed during the infamous Archon War that occurred 2000 years before the current timeline.
Some comments claim that the only way that this character could find her way to the playable roster is if HoYoverse introduced time travel in future Genshin Impact expansions. This would also allow players to experience the power of the Guili Assembly civilization which was also destroyed during the Archon War.
Genshin Impact is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is in development.
