Developer HoYoverse already confirmed that Alhaitham will become a playable character in the next Genshin Impact update for version 3.4. He will be accompanied by another Dendro character named Yaoyao who is finally scheduled to join the playable roster after being mentioned in multiple rumors over the last couple of months.

A new post on the Genshin Impact Leaks subreddit reveals in-game footage of Alhaitham’s gameplay. According to the video, he will be a sword character, making him the second Dendro sword user in Genshin Impact alongside the Traveler. The video also confirms previous rumors claiming that Alhaitham is a main DPS character in Genshin Impact. The gameplay reveals that Alhaitham will have a press and a hold variation of his elemental skill. Taping this ability will cause the new character to dash forward and deal Dendro damage to nearby enemies.
Holding his skill button will cause Alhaitham to spawn an object on the field which probably deals additional Dendro damage, and it seems to have a longer cooldown that the dash. His elemental burst will deal with multiple instances of Dendro damage in a large area on the field. Some fans have pointed out that the Elemental Burst animation looks similar to Keqing’s burst Starward Sword while others claim that Alhaitham’s whole kit seems very reminiscent of the five-star Electro user.
Several players in the comment section have stated that they will skip his banner as they don’t need a “Dendro Keqing” in their team composition in Genshin Impact. However, even though they share a similar playstyle, fans should still wait for Alhaitham’s kit description which will probably reveal that his kit is more complex than it seems.
HoYoverse’s official announcement did not reveal Alhaitham’s specific release date, but fans hope he arrives on the same banners as Yaoyao who is expected to have a four-star rarity. The developer’s decision to put the two recently released Anemo users, Wanderer and Faruzan, on the same part of Genshin Impact update 3.3 has allowed them to squeeze into the top 10 list of the most successful banners, at least according to the first-day revenue reports.
Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development with no confirmed release date.
