RELATED: Genshin Impact: Mistakes Players Make When Using Dori

Despite his ease of use, though, some of Xingqiu’s kits do require players to understand a few things. Failure to do so may lead to these common mistakes players make when using Xingqiu in Genshin Impact, so here’s what to avoid.

7 Using Elemental Skill Before Burst

During the team rotation, units have a few seconds to cast their Elemental Skills and Bursts before switching over. What to use first usually depends on the character’s kit and what players want to last longer. In Xingqiu’s case, his Burst is more important, so the natural priority would be to use his Burst after casting his Skill — but not if he got his C4.

Xingqiu’s fourth Constellation states that during the duration of Guhua Sword: Raincutter, any damage dealt by Guhua Sword: Fatal Rainscreen is increased by 50%. This means that players who Skill before Bursting will essentially lose 50% of their potential damage.

6 Not Using Sacrificial Sword

Xingqiu is a superb off-field DPS, so it’s understandable that players will try to build him to inflict the maximum possible damage. While that’s the goal, some miss the important aspect of his damage, which is his Elemental Burst. Without it, Xingqiu is a shell of himself and can’t provide his team with anything but on-touch Hydro application and a little protection.

To keep his Elemental Burst up, players have to work on a lot of things; namely, boosting his Energy Recharge percentage and teaming him with the units that will boost his regeneration. This is where Sacrificial Sword comes in. With Sacrificial Sword, Xingqiu can easily have his Burst up 100% of the time without the need for anything else but this weapon.

5 Pairing Xingqiu With The Wrong Characters

It is important to know where every character fits in Genshin Impact. That knowledge brings out the best in each unit and helps them perform at their highest potential. Since Xingqiu works with a lot of other characters, it is easy to think that he would fit in any team composition, but that’s not the case.

Xingqiu provides a great amount of Hydro application to a single target over a long period of time. In order to fully take advantage of that quality, players have to find characters that would benefit from having enemies constantly affected by Hydro. Characters like Diluc, Hu Tao, Keqing, Raiden Shogun, and many more would have double the impact on the field when paired with Xingqiu. On the other hand, players should not pair the Hydro boy with characters that don’t rely on their Normal Attacks, like Ganyu and Tighnari.

4 Comparing Xingqiu With Yelan

While both characters’ Elemental Bursts are similar, one thing is for sure: they are not the same. Both Xingqiu and Yelan have different roles on the field even though they are both off-field DPS. For example, Yelan is more of a buffer who fully commits to making the main DPS look good, while Xingqiu will protect them.

Comparing the two would lead some players to believe that it is better to use only one in their team compositions. But that’s not the case all the time. Sometimes, it’s better to include both Xingqiu and Yelan to maximize the team’s potential. Having them both will increase the team’s HP increase by 25%, boosting both Hu Tao and Yelan’s performance.

3 Underestimating Xingqiu’s Defensive Capabilities

Other than inflicting the maximum damage, every team must have at least some kind of protection to survive hard gameplay mechanics like the like the Spiral Abyss. But when including Xingqiu ins a team composition, some players underestimate his defensive capabilities and include another shielder or healer.

Including other healers could be effective for squishy units, but, most of the time, Xingqiu can do the job alone. Not to mention, it’s a waste of a slot. Other, more useful characters can shape Xingqiu’s team composition to dominate Genshin Impact.

2 Choosing The Wrong Constellations

Xingqiu is one of the best characters in Genshin Impact, but he has some issues without his Constellations. For example, the Guhua Disciple has some Energy problems without his C6 upgrade, while his sub-DPS potential is hidden behind his C2, C4, and C6.

His best Constellations are his C2 and C6. Both enhance his role as an off-field DPS and grant him other Supportive capabilities that make him the top-tier character he is today.

1 Not Understanding Internal Cooldown For Elemental Application

Internal Cooldown (ICD) is a feature of Elemental applications in Genshin Impact that prevents players from triggering an endless amount of reactions. The “standard” ICD is 2.5 seconds or three hits, which means players can either reapply Elements after 2.5s, or after initiating three instances of damage.

For example, if players use Kokomi with Hu Tao, the Funeral Parlor Director won’t be triggering as much Vaporize as she would with Xingqiu. This is because Kokomi’s Hydro application is not frequent enough to quickly reset the Internal Cooldown. Meanwhile, Xingqiu does this easily, as his Elemental Burst hits multiple times on each trigger (thus fulfilling the “3 hits” requirement). This is the main reason why Xingqiu and Hu Tao are one of the best pairs in Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
