That said, despite being an incredibly versatile character in Genshin Impact’s cast, many players will find ascending Mona to be a difficult task. Here is everything that players need to know about ascending and upgrading Mona’s talents.
Leveling Materials
For starters, Mona will need to level up using a certain amount of Mora and EXP. This is the same for each character, and so, players will want to collect these items before anything else. Players will need the following in order to level up Mona:

Ascension Items
After leveling up, players will need to ascend Mona to reach the next phasing in leveling her up. Rather than Mora and EXP, players will need to focus on collecting certain items from Genshin Impact’s world to ascend.
Gemstones - Varunada Lazurite
Each character in Genshin Impact requires a set of gemstones to reach each ascension milestone. Mona uses the Varunada Lazurite gemstone set, which can be collected through the Souvenir Shops, or by fighting bosses around the world.

Bosses that drop Varunada Lazurite include the Oceanid, the Primo Geovishap, the Hydro Hypostasis, as well as the Stormterror’s Lair, Azhdaha’s, or Tartaglia’s Weekly Boss Fight.
Enemy Drop - Nectar
Finding Nectar for Mona’s ascensions is not an easy task. Nectar is obtained by defeating Whopperflowers, which are annoying to fight and difficult to find in large numbers. Whopperflowers can be found in every region of Teyvat so far, especially in areas like Cuijue Slope in Liyue.
Boss Drop - Cleansing Heart
Often considered one of the more difficult bosses drops to collect in Genshin Impact, players will need Cleansing Hearts to ascend Mona. Players will need to defeat the Oceanid in order to collect Cleansing Hearts, which will require a character outside of Hydro. That said, defeating the Oceanid also allows players to collect Varunada Lazurite, killing two birds with one stone.

Local Specialty - Philanemo Mushroom
Unlike many of the other more difficult-to-find local specialties that characters need to ascend, Mona only requires Philanemo Mushrooms. These are mushrooms that spawn in large numbers in a few locations in Mondstadt, making them one of the least difficult local specialties to collect in Genshin Impact. Philanemo Mushrooms can be found in Mondstadt City, Springvale, and near the Dawn Winery.
Talent Materials
Talents are central to gameplay in Genshin Impact, so players are going to want to pay special attention to upgrading Mona’s skills. In order to upgrade Mona’s talent, players will need the following items.
Talent Books - Resistance
As a stout believer in astrology, Mona often finds herself going against the norms of society. As such, it comes as no surprise that Mona would use Books of Resistance to upgrade her talents.
Books of Resistance can be obtained from the Forsaken Rift on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
Trounce Materials And Crowns Of Insight
After reaching level 6, Genshin Impact players will need Trounce Materials obtained from weekly bosses in addition to books to upgrade their characters’ talents. For Mona, she will need Rings of Boreas. These Trounce Materials can be obtained by completing the Wolf of the North domain in Wolvendom.
In addition, Mona will need to use Crowns of Insight to reach her maximum potential. Each character can use a total of three Crowns, one for each talent, to maximize their level. These nifty items can be a little rare to find; they can be obtained from the Frostbearing Tree, Sacred Sakura, as well as rewards for limited-time events.
