Then again, seeing huge numbers and one-shotting bosses can often be more satisfying. For overachievers, having the best team available for Ganyu is tailored around the Melt or Frozen reaction, maybe a little Superconduct as well for lazy players.

Updated September 18, 2021, by Sid Natividad: Several big updates and numerous characters later, Ganyu still remains the top DPS or carry in Genshin Impact. She could very well remain at the top of the throne for several more updates.

Hence, a Ganyu team comp is always in style. The new characters definitely lend a great deal to Ganyu’s prowess as the Ice Queen in Genshin Impact. Raiden Shogun and Kazuha are two of the most notable Inazuma characters to pair well in a Ganyu team. Hence, we’ve updated this Ganyu team comps list to be more comprehensive and to help players decide which is the best Ganyu team for them.

For Melt

Melt is by far Ganyu’s highest damage potential as this elemental reaction allows Ganyu to deal 1.5x the damage. Paired with her Crit Damage which goes higher as she ascends, Ganyu can be a beast. By herself, and with the proper weapons (Amos Bow) and artifacts (Blizzard Strayer/Wanderer’s Troupe), Ganyu can deal anywhere from 30,000 to 60,000 cryo damage. Imagine how high she can do if those were Melt triggers.

Xiangling

Xiangling is, by far, the most effective pyro applicator for Ganyu at the moment. She’s a free character too, very easy to obtain. Her Elemental Burst has a nice range that Ganyu can utilize safely. Moreover, Xiangling’s Elemental Skill, Gouba, works well to diffuse all the hostility from Ganyu as well as providing a steady stream of pyro status so Ganyu can trigger Melt.

Bennett

Bennett is a good alternative to Xiangliang, and for some, he’s probably even better. That’s because Bennett is an all-around character who can also apply pyro consistently. His Elemental Skill has a low single-digit cooldown and can be applied generously. Meanwhile, his Elemental Burst buffs Ganyu’s attack significantly and at C6, even infuses normal attacks with pyro damage.

For Perma-Frost

Another composition or setup for Ganyu as the main DPS would be the so-called perma-frost. It takes advantage of the Frozen status and the consistency of characters that can apply the wet or hydro status. It just so happens that Ganyu’s Elemental Burst practically has no downtime as long as she has enough Energy Recharge.

Mona

Mona, due to her large-area hydro effects, is one of the most optimal choices for Ganyu’s hydro applicator. She doesn’t even have to rely on her abilities since, being a catalyst user, she can just do some charge attacks while Ganyu’s Elemental Burst is running. Of course, when paired with her pulsing Elemental Skill and encompassing Elemental Burst, the whole battlefield just turns into a refrigerator.

Xinqiu

Xinqiu is a decent formerly free-to-play substitute for Mona, but the long cooldown of his Hydro attacks somewhat hurts the composition’s practicality. After all, Ganyu is a ranged character. Still, her Freeze composition usually revolves around her Elemental Burst, meaning Xinqiu is still very much viable.

Tartaglia/Childe

Childe is another good candidate as a support or even main DPS for a Ganyu Freeze composition, as his Elemental Skill covers a lot of ground with the hydro status. His charged shots are also ranged and deal hydro damage which is always good in tough situations. Besides, it’s easy for a Ganyu composition like this to switch to a Vaporize setup if players have Bennett in the party.

Diona

Ganyu herself won’t cut it with the Freeze composition. Sometimes, she will need a backup Cryo dealer of some sort in order to keep the pressure. In that case, Diona is a must in a Ganyu Freeze composition as she applies cryo more reliably than Qiqi or even Chongyun. Moreover, she can double as a healer for the party.

For Superconduct

Superconduct is another setup where Ganyu can deal consistent damage by abusing her zero downtime Elemental Burst. There aren’t as many options here compared to the Melt and Frozen compositions, but it works decently enough for continuous low-effort DPS. It’s also useful for when players want to switch to a Physical Ganyu in the face of Cryo enemies immune to her Charged attacks.

Fischl

Fischl, alongside her trusty raven Oz, works best for this kind of setup with Ganyu. Fischl can certainly keep Oz in the field 90 percent of the time. Pair that with Ganyu’s zero-downtime Elemental Burst, and that’s a continuous stream of Superconduct damage against multiple opponents in a field. It’s not as safe as the Frozen composition, but players can also make it a hybrid team setup and add in some Hydro characters.

Raiden Shogun

Truth be told, Raiden Shogun synergizes better with units that deal Physical, Electro, or Pyro damage, but she can still serve as a backup DPS in case Ganyu is up against Cryo enemies. Moreover, she can give Ganyu some energy, ensuring that her Elemental Burst remains available.

Healing, Support, & Damage Boost

Ganyu, thanks to her essentially complete ability set, doesn’t need much healing or grouping support. Her Elemental Skill gathers most of her enemies in one spot and functions as both a survival tool and crowd control. Even so, her low defense and HP can put her in trouble after some failed evasions. So some support is necessary for her.

Venti

Venti comes to mind as one of the best support and crowd-control options for Ganyu but really, he just makes any team shine. He can cluster up Ganyu’s targets with ease, further enhancing her Elemental Burst or even charged shot’s damage. It also makes Ganyu safer from attacks.

Sucrose

Sucrose is a nice alternative for Venti, assuming both of them have the Viridescent Venerer artifact set. Sucrose’s grouping skills aren’t quite as good as Venti’s, but she makes up for that by being a more consistent Swirl applicator.

Jean

Jean is always a good healer to have, and when placed in any composition that relies on elemental reactions, she shines bright. She’s practically a two-for-one character that can heal and debuff enemies with the Viridescent Venerer.

Kazuha

The verdict is out. It seems Kazuha is pretty much Sucrose and Venti combined, but with a weaker Energy Recharge and more conservative crowd control. Still, it’s worth experimenting with him in a Ganyu Melt team. That’s because he gives a ton of Elemental DMG Bonus based on his Elemental Mastery.

This bodes well for Ganyu’s Cryo damage. More than that, Kazuha’s Elemental Burst allows him to keep applying the element with which he produced a Swirl reaction. That means he also fits well in a Freeze team.

Most Optimal Freeze Team: Ganyu/Mona/Xingqiu/Diona

Ganyu is so powerful that she doesn’t even need to rely on a team. However, not having a team would mean more difficult gameplay, especially for a C0 Ganyu. Hence, a Freeze composition for Ganyu is always a reliable team. One of Ganyu’s biggest weaknesses below C6 is that she takes a bit of time to deal damage (at least two seconds). However, that shouldn’t be much of a problem if the enemies are frozen in place.

Thus, Xingqiu and Mona have their own roles to play here, which is to provide Ganyu with Hydro application. Xingqiu’s Elemental Burst is particularly notable since it also works with ranged characters. Diona gives a shield, which is always great for Ganyu, as well as some Cryo resonance for added CRIT. She will also ensure that Ganyu gets the energy she needs to keep spamming her Burst. Here’s how the playstyle goes:

Activate Diona’s Elemental Skill (hold variant) for the shield. Use Xingqiu’s Elemental Burst. Use Mona’s Elemental Burst. Switch to Ganyu and use her Elemental Burst. Afterward, just do some level 2 Charged attacks and kill everything that’s frozen. To reset the combo, use Diona’s Elemental Skill (hold variant) and then switch immediately to Ganyu so she catches the particles. Repeat step 2 onwards assuming Xingqiu’s Elemental Burst is ready. Mona’s Burst can be skipped safely.

Most Optimal Melt Team: Ganyu/Xiangling/Bennett/Venti

Frozen and Superconduct compositions sound great and all but nothing can beat straight damage from Melt. More than that, Melt compositions for Ganyu are simply more consistent. As for her most efficient Melt composition, that would be the party above.

First, give the enemies a cryo status with Ganyu’s Elemental Skill and switch to Venti for his Elemental Burst, thus activating Viridescent Venerer’s 4-piece bonus for any enemy afflicted with Cryo. Afterward, Switch to Bennett for his Elemental Burst field to boost Ganyu’s damage and then to Xiangling for her Elemental Burst or Skill for pyro status. Finally, switch back to Ganyu and let those level 2 charged shots rip for five to six digits of damage every 2 seconds. It’s borderline bullying for any enemy in Genshin Impact. For a step-by-step procedure:

Use Ganyu’s Elemental Skill or Burst to apply Cryo. Switch to Venti and use his Elemental Burst. Use Bennett’s Elemental Burst. Switch to Xiangling and activate her Elemental Burst. Go back to Ganyu and perform level 2 Charged attacks on anything that moves. Repeat step 1 once Venti and Xiangling’s Elemental Bursts are ready.
